Rectangular obelisk, topped by a double flame surrounded by a cast iron fence. The names of Litchfield citizens who died in the Civil War are incised on all four faces of the pedestal. The remaining inscription appears in raised lettering.

This is an early Civil War monument, and the only one in Northfield. It was treated in the 1980s by Mr. Keck of Terryville, CT. Cost of monument was $426.28. IAS files contain a copy of "A Village to Remember" which lists the names of those honored on the monument, as well as historical background. Related newspaper articles are in a bound volume, "1925-1934" available at the Gilbert Library in Northfield Connecticut.
