    Remarks:
The sculpture was a gift from the Italian Government, in cooperation with the Alcide de Gasperi Foundation, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Marshall Plan. The $600,000 work was a token of gratitude for the help Italy received through the Marshall Plan in its recovery from the devastation of World War II. The sculpture is a larger version of a 1984 work of the same title commissioned by the city of Morciano in homage of Umberto Boccioni, the prominent Italian Futurist who lived there. IAS files contain official correspondence and departmental minutes from the City of Los Angeles County Affairs Department, and related newsclippings. The sculpture was fabricated and finished in Italy and the surface was given a mirror finish. It was shipped by boat, uncoated, to the United States and arrived one week prior to its unveiling. The sculpture arrived covered in black tranish, and was sanded in circular patterns to help bring up the original intended reflective surface.
