    Description: 
    Full-length portrait of Junipero Serra. He wears a priest's long robe with a rope belt, an ornamented stole and sandals. He holds a book in his proper left hand. His proper right hand is raised in blessing, the palm face out. He stands in front of a wooden dinghy or rowboat. A cross lays lengthwise inside the boat. A rope is coiled at the bow of the boat. The granite sculpture stands on a rough-hewn self-base.

    The sculpture was given to the city of Monterey by Jane L. Stanford in 1901. The sculpture is located near the place where Serra landed in 1770 and founded the Mission San Carlos, Monterey.
