    Description: 
    A replication of a lighthouse, reduced in size and non-functional. Around the lower portion of the piece is a series of bronze plaques. One depicts a battle scene from the Spanish American War; the second depicts a shipwreck and a lighthouse. The other panels discuss the war and list names of New Britain volunteers. Surrounding the sculpture is a circular pebble-stone courtyard with a brick, stone and metal wall, as well as a bridge which continues the line of the wall.

    Remarks: 
    Inscription on a carved stone plaque on an associated bridge reads: ERECTED BY THE CITY OF/NEW BRITAIN/A.D. 1927/DELBERT K. PERRY EARLE K. BISHOP/ARCHITECTS. This sculpture is a replication of the lighthouse in the harbor of Morro Castle in Havana, Cuba. It was in that harbor, by that lighthouse, that the U.S.S. Maine was sunk on February 15, 1898, the American pretext for initiating the Spanish-American War.
