Provenance:
Formerly located Grant Park, Chicago, Illinois 1928-1946.
Remarks:
In 1946 the West Side Medical Center Commission arranged to move the memorial to its present location in the center of green space in front of Cook County Hospital so it could be an inspiration to the medical students training in the area. Its former Grant Park setting was designed by architects Low and Bennett. The monument's bust and shaft design was created by Bennett and Hermant. Shaft medium given as marble in Riedy publication, but SOS! survey and Bach and Gray publication give limestone.
