It cost $75,000 and was funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, Art in Public Places grant of $50,000 given in 1975 to the City of Atlanta. Matching funds were provided by the High Museum's Members Guild, and the Atlanta Junior League. IAS files contain related excerpts from Museum News, Sept./Oct. 1976, pg. 32-35 and brochure for Playscapes published by the High Museum of Art. Since the SOS! 1994 survey, the sculpture has been repainted, but not according to artist's original colors.
