Description:
A uniformed Civil War soldier stands atop tall, ornate pedestal. The soldier holds the barrel of a rifle with both hands at waist level, the stock resting by his feet. The upper section of the pedestal is made of rough blocks and crenellated near the top, decorated with a flag. The middle portion of the pedestal is polished. The lower section has rough, rusticated blocks on the sides. A medallion with the State of Indiana seal is placed about midway on the pedestal. The sculpture is mounted upon a multitiered, rock-faced base.

Remarks:
The monument commemorates the involvement of the Eighty-fourth Indiana Infantry Regiment at the Battle of Civil of Chickamauga during the Civil War. It was placed by the State of Indiana. IAS files contain related excerpt from Jack Kerr's "Monuments and Markers of the 29 States Engaged at Chickamauga and Chattanooga," Collegedale, TN: The College Press, n.d.; copy of Georgia Historic Resources 1988 form, Historic Preservation Section, Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The monument is on the National Park List of Classified Structures No. 08774 or 08796.
