Dates:  1897. Medium:  Sculpture: Indiana oolitic stone; Seal: bronze; Base: Indiana oolitic stone. Dimensions:  Overall: approx. H. 30 ft.; Pedestal: approx. 15 x 7 x 7 ft.; Base: approx. 7 x 7 x 3 ft. Description:  A uniformed Civil War soldier stands atop tall, ornate pedestal. The soldier holds the barrel of a rifle with both hands at waist level, the stock resting by his feet. The upper section of the pedestal is made of rough blocks and crenellated near the top, decorated with a flag. The middle portion of the pedestal is polished. The lower section has rough, rusticated blocks on the sides. A medallion with the State of Indiana seal is placed about midway on the pedestal. The sculpture is mounted upon a multitiered, rock-faced base. It was placed by the State of Indiana.
