Remarks:
Ferris State University was known as Ferris State College when the sculpture was originally installed in 1983. The sculpture was a joint student/faculty project of the School of Technology, funded by the School of Technology General Development fund. Professor Bechelli designed the original, hand-sized model; Professor Donald Rynearson and two students did the full-scale design drawings. The sculpture was fabricated by the Ferris State College Welding Class of 1984, thirty-seven students directed by Professors Harold Hankes and David Murray. The original installation site was west of Swan Hall and north of Johnson Hall, and the sculpture was relocated to its present site around 1987. IAS files contain: excerpt from Ferris State College's "Report to the President from the Centennial Task Force," June 1984, pg. 28.
