Formerly located Paducah Post Office, Fifth Street, Paducah, Kentucky 1856 until ca. 1937-1938.
    Remarks:
The memorial was erected through the efforts of the Paducah Junior Chamber of Commerce, and commemorates those who gave aid during the Ohio Valley Flood of 1937, which inundated ninety percent of Paducah and drove over a million people from their homes. The eagle was formerly located atop the Paducah Post Office, built in 1856 and razed 1937-1938. Walter Beasley of the Beasley Monument Company saved the eagle and designed the new memorial around it. IAS files contain a transcription of a marker behind the memorial, discussing the flood. IAS files contain a related excerpt from Fred G. Neuman's "The Story of Paducah," Paducah, KY: Young Printing Company, 1979, rev. print., pg. 136.
