    Description: 
    Monument consisting of a tall granite shaft, surmounted by an eagle. The eagle's wings are partially spread and its head is turned to the proper left. The front of the shaft has a relief carving of an oval wreath topped with a crown. A cross rests in the crown. Two niches are set into the lower part of the shaft, one on each side. In one of the niches stands a full-length figure of a Civil War officer. He wears a uniform and hat and leans with both hands on the hilt of his sword; the tip of the sword is at his feet. The other niche contains a full-length figure of a Civil War soldier. He wears a uniform and cap. He leans on the stock of a rifle; the barrel of the gun rests on the ground between his feet. The corners of the shaft below the niches are decorated with relief of vertical cannon. The shaft ends in a base of granite, marble and cement.

    Remarks: 
    Cost of the monument was $12,000; $8,000 was raised through town appropriation and $5,264.39 were appropriated from the town's military funds. The monument was dedicated to the memory of Daniel V. Brown and Edward Riggs, who, while going to South Carolina as agents of the town under the directions of the town war committee, were lost at sea. The monument was restored in 1967. Restoration included sandblasting and painting. IAS files contain transcriptions of names listed on the honor roll. IAS files contain copy of related excerpt from Hyde's "History of Glen Falls and its Settlements", (private printing), 1936, pg. 132-141.
