Title:  A Layering of Worlds, (sculpture). Dates:  Dedicated June 9, 1993. Medium:  Sculpture: stainless steel, bronze and aluminum; Base: concrete. Dimensions:  Sculpture: approx. 20 x 18 x 1.5 ft.; Each base: approx. H. 8 ft. Inscription:  unsigned Description:  An arch of stainless steel grids making up a network of lines and curves that are painted a variety of colors. Bronze and aluminum objects, which refer to the history and culture of Phoenix and the southwest, arts, science and technology, are suspended in the arch. These objects include a scorpion, a cow-skull, a saxophone, a violin, a wagon wheel, a falling Keith Haring man, a snake, a book, letters of the alphabet, math symbols, tragic/comic masks, a turtle, and a vase or urn. The arch is anchored on each side by two bases, each of which consists of four concrete piers or columns.
