Description:
A figure of a Civil War soldier, dressed in a military uniform that includes a cap, stands holding the barrel of a rifle with both hands; the butt rests near his feet. The figure is placed atop a tall, multitiered shaft-like base that is decorated with various emblems, including those of the G.A.R. and the United States Navy.

Remarks:
The memorial was erected in memory of those who defended the country in the Civil and Spanish American Wars by the Committee of Lyon Post, No. 11 Department, Nebraska G.A.R. Members of the committee included C. B. Humphrey, C. B. Norris, and C. F. Ryan. Funded by City Government. Bronze for tablet was taken from Battleship Maine.
