    Description:
A scrap-metal sculpture of a cow, set on a platform base with four wheels, suggesting a pull toy. The head and body of the cow are made mostly of plate steel, cut and bent to shape. The eyes are of pipe caps surrounded by open circles, the nostrils formed of large nuts. The four teats on the under are made of capped pipes, and the tail is of twisted pipe attached by a hinge so that it can be raised and lowered. The cow is painted black and white, the udder and nostril pink, with the protruding tongue red, and the eyes dark red. Around the cow's neck is a painted cattle stanchion, and beneath the udder is a galvanized steel pail. On the proper left side of the cow, near the udder, is a small red-painted rectangular stool welded to the base. The base is painted green with four yellow-painted wheels, and has a length of rope.

    Remarks:
The sculpture was inspired by the cattle stanchion, and the sculptors decided to build a cow around it. It was begun in 1995, and completed on New Year's Eve 1996. IAS files contain an excerpt from Helen H. Frink's "Alstead Through the Years, 1763-1990," Alstead Historical Society, 1992, pg. 423-424.
