Gaynor Mayor of New York and administered by the Red Cross Emergency Relief Committee of the Charity Organization Society left a sufficient balance to erect this monument. unsigned

    Remarks: 
    Memorial to seven unidentified workers who died in the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. Commissioned by the Red Cross Emergency Relief Committee of the Charity Organization Society of the City of New York, which was chaired by Robert W. de Forest at the time. According to Ellen Wiley Todd (see American Art 23:3 (Fall 2009): pg. 60-80), the memorial had until recently been unattributed; also, Henry Bacon possibly designed the memorial.
