Seated figure of Selma Lagerlof on a square base. The figure wears a long dress and a shawl and her hair is in a bun. Her legs are crossed and she holds a book in her lap and a pen in her proper right hand.

Remarks:
Statue is a copy of one which stands on the Rottneros estate in Varmland Province, Sweden. It was commissioned by Major Svante Pahlson, president of the Fryksdalens Society of Varmland, who presented this replica to the Institute. Selma Lagerlof (1858-1940) was a Swedish author and educator who was the first female recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1909. IAS files include excerpts from the Swedish American Institute Bulletin, Winter, 1955-56.
