    Description: 
    A mermaid carved from red oak is mounted horizontally on two steel support rods that are secured in a large boulder. The mermaid is angled upwards with arms extended over her head as if swimming through the sky. She has a strong and voluptuous figure and long hair flowing back. Her head is raised accentuating the feeling of strength. Her upper body is smooth and muscular, tapering to a fish-scaled lower body. The sculpture is situated near a boat dock facing out over the Long Island Sound.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was commissioned by the Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club in 1985. It was carved out of a large red oak tree that had been killed by blight and was resting in the club's parking lot. IAS files contain related articles from the New York Times, Nov. 17, 1985; and the Gannett Westchester Newspapers, Oct. 29, 1985, pg. 7.
