Description:
A group of three memorial steles installed across the corner of the fence at Carson and Tenth streets. The fence and steles make a semi-circle. A relief of a floating female figure appears on the center stele. The two flanking steles are inscribed with the names of battlefields where American soldiers lost their lives.

Remarks:
The design for this WWI memorial was submitted to the Art Commission of the City of Pittsburgh in 1932 and received preliminary approval on May 19, 1932. The basic design of the monument was approved on July 19, 1932 with the stipulation that a detail of the relief be submitted; the project as a whole received final approval on September 13, 1932. Related Information can be found in the records of the Art Commission of the City of Pittsburgh located at the Carnegie Mellon University Archives in the file for the Seventheeth Ward Memorial. This file includes correspondence, sketches, photos, and blueprints including Stanely Roush's blueprint of the memorial showing a sketch of the relief on the center stele; and a photo of the relief stamped with "Frank Aretz, sculptor."
