    Description: 
    A rounded, arched brick wall which winds around in a circle. The Hump Ring is an ancient symbol of rebirth and regeneration dating to the Hopewell Indians, who inhabited Ohio and Illinois, circa 1500 B.C. The work was designed to be seen from library windows above.

    Funded with a National Endowment for the Arts, Art in Public Places grant of $4,000 given in 1978 to Western Illinois University. Additional funding was provided by Western Illinois University's College of Fine Arts. Three students, Mark Arctander, Gene Coon, and Richard Bruce, assisted in the creation of the piece.
