A fountain of bronze tubes and granite blockheads, which forms the centerpiece of a pedestrian mall. The four bronze tubes are of varying heights and each has a fountain nozzle on top. The cylinder tubes are on a low mound of glacial cobbles set in concrete. Thirty-one rough granite bulkhead blocks are arranged around the bronze cylinders. In the center of the cylinders is a spotlight mounted flush with the surface of the mound and in the four corners of the mound drains have been set. The area is surrounded by a border of granite cobble pavers. Benches are placed on three sides.

Remarks:
The sculpture is symbolic of the area's maritime importance. The cylinders are representative of wooden pilings. Materials for the sculpture were obtained as salvage from the water front reconstruction. The Inn Street Mall was constructed by the Newburyport Redevelopment Authority and the City of Newburyport. IAS files contain a related brochure from Sasaki Associates describing the downtown revitalization project.
