Description:
Two relief panels depicting bas-relief scenes from Lewis and Clark journals inset into curved walls. In one, they meet three Native Americans, and in the other, Lewis meets with six chiefs of the Missouri and Oto Indians. The panels are placed in a larger plaza.

Remarks:
Erected by the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Iowa as a memorial to the Lewis and Clark expedition. At Rainbow Point, Aug. 2-3, 1804, Lewis and Clark held parley with the Oto and Missouri Indians and named the locality Council Bluffs. The artist was assisted by five advanced sculpture students, including Thealtis Alberts.
