    Description: 
    Two Hungarian Vizsla dogs (Hungarian Pointers), recline flanking a porch. Both dogs are alert with their heads lifted. The dog on the proper left has its front proper left paw around a puppy. The puppy stands on its hind legs, leaning against the larger dog. Both sculptures are painted white.

    Remarks: 
    The sculptures were commissioned by John Lendrum Mitchell. They were created in Florence, Italy and installed at Mitchell's newly created mansion in 1878. In 1924, the Carmelite sisters bought the mansion and part of the land for $3,500. The home was originally used as a girls' orphanage. In 1938, it was converted to a home for the elderly. The dogs were painted around 1989. The dogs were previously covered with canvas during the winter months.
