Description:
A bronze eagle sits atop a marble memorial base. The eagle's wings are stretched skyward. The eagle sits on a tall central shaft with military-style bas-relief adornment. The central marble shaft is flanked by low marble wings on either side. The shaft and wings stand on a single marble step.

Remarks:
The memorial was erected by a group of Richmond citizens who organized the South Richmond War Memorial Association. Money for the memorial was raised by a two-week house-to-house campaign. IAS files contain copies of related articles from Richmond Times-Dispatch, Sept. 4, 1946, March 5 and July 14, 1947. IAS files contain copy of related City of Richmond Sculpture Survey.
