He is holding the barrel of his rifle with both hands. The stock rests on the ground. He is dressed in a knee-length overcoat and cap. The sculpture is mounted atop a square shaft decorated with insignia reliefs, including crossed cannons, and pedestal decorated with portrait relief busts of Lincoln, Washington and Grant. The monument is fenced.
