Description:
A hollow "tree trunk" house, with a large "entrance" on the south side, and several perforations representing the nubs of branches. The north side has several "root" forms at the base. The interior is finished like the cambrium layer of bark and has a bench form along the length of the east and west walls. The sculpture is constructed of reinforced cement and finished with a veneer of neat cement that has been sculpted in the "faux bois" tradition to represent the texture of tree bark.

Remarks:
The sculpture was created around 1933. The artist was hired by Lakewood Park's developer, Justin Matthews of the Justin Matthews Company, to execute the sculpture. IAS files contain the 1986 nomination form for the National Register of Historic Places for the artist's Arkansas sculptures, which includes this sculpture. IAS files contain historical images taken following the dedication in 1933.
