    Description:
The sculpture depicts Samson breaking free of the chains that bind him. A classic male torso carved in Nero Marquinda marble is placed with its back to a broken concrete column. At the base of the column are two column pieces placed horizontally to form a triangle. The concrete columns are made with 3/16-inch steel walls and black Belgian marble at the ends. Broken pieces of steel chain hang from two shackles, one attached to the proper left thigh and the other attached to the proper right arm. Another piece of broken chain is attached to the horizontal column pieces. The surface of the torso is smooth in contrast to the roughly carved loin cloth wrapped around the waist.
