Gift of Dwoskin, Harry and Oscar, 1963.
Remarks:
One of seven paintings from a series on "Revealed
Religion
" painted by West for the projected chapel in Windsor Castle as commissioned by King George III. However, because of the deterioration of the King's mind, the project was never completed. In the Burlington Magazine, March 1967, on sale page of Christie's, is a West drawing that shows his planned arrangement of the paintings in the chapel.
