Commissioned and donated by Anne Dodge and Eleanor Dodge Pusey in memory of their mother, Ruth Anne Dodge, 1833-1916. Cost of the sculpture was approximately $12,000. Mrs. Dodge was the wife of Grenville M. Dodge, a Civil War general and railroad executive. It is a translation of the dreams of Mrs. Dodge on three nights before her death. Sculpture is on the Register of National Historic Places. IAS files contain two articles, one from 1965 with a newsphoto, and a related brochure, "The Angel by Daniel Chester French." Monument was restored in June 1984.
