(On metal plaque on side of sculpture base:) FREDERICK GUARINO unsigned Founder's mark appears. Description:  Maximin Giraud depicted as he watches the Virgin Mary being assumed into heaven. He wears a smock, pants, and shoes and stands holding his brimmed hat to his chest with his proper right hand while clutching his walking stick. Box 420, LaSalette Garden, Enfield, New Hampshire 03748 Remarks:  One of a grouping of three sculptures commemorating the Virgin Mary's apparition in 1846 at LaSalette, France to two children, Maximin Giraud and Melanie Calvat who were watching their cows in the French Alps. The sculpture depicts the third phase of the Virgin's apparition as she is assumed into heaven while Maximin and Melanie stand and watch. Figures of Our Lady of LaSalette (IAS record NH000290) and Melanie (IAS record NH000292) stand nearby.
