    Remarks:
Construction of the Montford Missions and the Lourdes in Litchfield Grotto was initiated in 1954 which was declared a "Marian Year" by Pope Pius XII. The Grotto is modeled after the Grotto at Lourdes in France. The Grotto design and all the stonework was conceived and executed by Montford Missionaries Brother Alphonso and Brother Gabriel. The Stations of the Cross statuary was cast in France except for the 15th Station, which was purchased later from a religious statuary company in New York. Construction began in 1956 and was completed in 1958. IAS files include brochures from the Montford Missions.
