    Remarks:
The total cost of the monument was $65,000 which was raised through subscriptions by school children, Masons, Oddfellows, Good Templers, and the Aux Ladies Monument Association. In 1883, a public act of Michigan appropriated $100.00 per year for the care and preservation of the monument. This amount was reduced to $85.00 in 1932, and funds were finally withdrawn in 1958. The monument was originally to be installed at East Grand Circus Park and the cornerstone was laid there on July 4, 1867, but before the monument was installed, the decision was made to install the sculpture at Campus Martius. The monument was assembled James Goodwin Batterson.
