    Remarks: 
    Homer Saint-Gaudens (1880-1958), son of sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, later became Director of the Department of Fine Arts, Carnegie Institute, 1922-1950. Sargent painted the portrait in exchange for a bas-relief of his sister Violet, modeled by his sculptor-friend, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the boy's father.
