    Description: 
    An equestrian portrait of Major General James B. McPherson holding the reins of his horse with his proper left hand and a pair of field glasses with his proper right hand. McPherson, bearded and dressed in a military uniform that consists of knee-length coat and a brimmed hat, sits in the saddle with a bedroll behind him. The horse stands with all four legs planted on the ground. The statue is placed atop a rectangular base with rounded ends that are decorated with carved garlands.

    Remarks: 
    Major General James B. McPherson, 1828-1864, played an important part in the siege and capture of Vicksburg. He later lost his life while making a reconnoissance on July 22, 1864 during the battle of Atlanta. Nearby plaque records the names of 751 McPherson County veterans of the Civil War.
