    Remarks:
Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882) was an Italian patriot, military and nationalistic leader. The sculpture was commissioned on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death and was a gift of Italian-American citizens to the State of Rhode Island. It was funded by 62 patriotic and fraternity associations. The sculpture was originally installed at the Rhode Island College of Education, now the University of Rhode Island Providence campus. It was damaged in a hurricane on Sept. 21, 1938, and restored that year on Dec. 30 by Alderman Thomas S. Luongo. In 1975, it was relocated to its current site in the then new park. IAS files include citations to the Providence Journal-Bulletin July 3 & 4, 1932.
