    Description: 
    A waist-length portrait of Christopher Columbus holding his gloves in his proper left hand and his helmet in his proper right hand. Around his neck is a medallion with a picture of the Virgin Mary. The sculpture rests atop a tall square granite base. On the front of the granite base is a bronze relief plaque adorned with an eagle and an American flag.

    Remarks: 
    The inscription on a bronze plaque located on a granite marker in the ground in front of the sculpture reads: FEDERICI PARK/Named in honor of Gaetano Federici 1880-1964, Paterson's famous Italian-American Sculptor. He was able to capture the hearts and spirit of our city and its people in his world famous works. The moving of his Christopher Columbus statue to this site for all to enjoy is made possible by the Italian Circle of Paterson, Inc./October 12, 1985. IAS files contain an excerpt from Flavia Alaya's "Gaetano Federici: 1880-1964 The Artist As Historian," Paterson, NJ: Passaic County Historical Society, 1980, pg. 85-86.
