Remarks:
The bust was commissioned in 1989 to commemorate television
producer
Norman Lear's induction into the Academy of Television
Arts
and Sciences Hall of Fame in 1984. Lear is best known as the
producer
of the hit television series "All in the Family."
The sculpture was one of several pieces in place for the May 4, 1991 dedication ceremonies of the Academy's new headquarters. The sculpture's selection and placement in the plaza were overseen by the Hall of Fame Sculpture Committee, chaired by architect Jan Scott. Scott also designed the pedestal for the sculpture.
