    Description: 
    A bronze statue of Louis Armstrong, standing with his feet slightly apart, facing west-southwest. He holds a trumpet down by his side in his proper left hand. In his proper right hand he holds a wadded up handkerchief. He wears a suit and tie. He stands on a rectangular bronze plinth which rests on a rectangular concrete base. Directly in front of the base is a rectangular concrete marker with a plaque.

    Sculpture cost thirty thousand dollars. Base provided by city of New Orleans. Sculpture paid for by over one thousand individuals in over twenty-six nations around the world. Inscription on marker in front of statue reads: LOUIS ARMSTRONG. Inscription on nearby marker reads: LOUIS ARMSTRONG STATUE/Dedicated by Lucille Armstrong/April 15, 1980/This statue was paid for through the contributions of/over one thousand individuals from over twenty-six/nations around the world. The statue project was/coordinated by the Louis Armstrong Statue Fund./Benny Carter, Chairman/Floyd Levin, Director/Elizabeth Catlett, Sculptress.
    During renovation of Armstrong Park, the sculpture was placed in storage and was reinstalled on a new base in front of the lagoon in April 2010.
