Description:
This monolithic sculpture consists of three musicians playing instruments. The standing central figure plays a saxophone while the figure to his left plays a cello and the figure to his right plays a large round
drum
. The figures are very angular and are carved without a much detail.

Remarks:
This sculpture is one of two created for the Michigan State University's band shell through the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration. In 1959 when the band shell was torn down to make way for Bessey Hall, one of the sculptures was destroyed. The remaining one, which was formerly on the left side of the band shell, was relocated to the lawn of the
Music
Building.
