    Description:
Portrait of television performer and comedian Jackie Gleason as character Ralph Kramden from "The Honeymooners." He stands in one of his signature poses, executed when saying "and away we go." Gleason balances on his proper right foot with his proper left leg in the air, knee bent and foot at a perpendicular angle. His proper right elbow is held high, slightly above the shoulder, with his forearm hanging in a vertical position. His proper left arm is stretched out to his side, continuing the strong diagonal from high to low begun by his proper right elbow. Gleason is dressed in a bus driver's uniform which includes a zippered jacket, shirt, tie, trousers and beat-up laced shoes. The jacket is covered with tiny bumps and cross-hatch patterns. The sculpture has a brown patina. The sculpture is mounted on a short circular base on a square brass plate centered atop a rectangular, off-white stone pedestal.

    Remarks:
Sculpture was commissioned to commemorate Jackie Gleason's induction into the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame in 1986. Gleason was star of "The Jackie Gleason Show" and "The Honeymooners," in which he played brash, loud-mouthed bus driver Ralph Kramden.
Jan Scott designed the pedestal. The sculpture is cleaned every three months. IAS files contain related articles from the Los Angeles Times, May 7, 1993, Sect. F, Art; and Hollywood Variety, Aug. 18, 1987.
