    Description: 
    Full-length relief of a male athlete is installed on building facade. He wears a 1939 era football uniform with helmet. His proper left arm rests across his midsection and his proper right arm encircles a football. The sculpture is full-round at the top, in high relief at the upper parts of the figure and becomes more integral with the facade from about the legs down.

    Remarks: 
    The County Office Building was originally the Cortland High School gymnasium, erected in 1939-1940 for $450,000. The figure of "he Boy" and his companion sculpture "The Girl" (see IAS record NY001028) were designed by the architect Carl W. Clark and executed from plaster models by McCallom. IAS files contain a related article from the Syracuse Post-Standard, Nov. 12, 1939.
