    Description: 
    Standing figure of man dressed in business suit with proper left leg extended and proper left knee slightly bent. Chimpanzee stands facing man with arms raised, proper left hand grasping lapel of man's suit, and proper right arm against proper left elbow of man. Figures stand on short circular bronze base attached to larger circular limestone base.

    George Philip Vierheller 1882-1966, was first Director of St. Louis Zoo, 1919-1962. Commissioned by Howard and Isabel Baer. Sculpture originally part of concourse fountain at another location in zoo; moved to present site when scale of sculpture deemed inappropriate for fountain.
