    Description: 
    Scene of a preacher speaking to a group of eight attentive women, men and children in a domestic setting. Women and girls are dressed in clothing reminiscent of traditional Norwegian attire. The preacher stands at the head of a table, holding a book in his right hand and gesturing out with the other hand.

    Remarks: 
    The painting was reportedly based on Adolph Tidemand's 1848 painting "Haugianerne," and was probably sketched in Norway. The painting was deaccessioned from the collection of Luther College in Nov. 1990 and transferred to the Vesterheim.
