Remarks:
Blessed Maria de Mattias was from Florence, Italy. She was the foundress of the Sisters Adorers order. The sculpture was designed by Sister Regina Buchholz and its fabrication began in 1957. When the sculptor was transferred from her teaching job to head the art department at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, the sculpture was left unfinished. The sculpture was placed in a field and was left unnoticed until its discovery some twenty years later. The original assistant, Teresa Buchholz, now Teresa Buchholz Beilman, was contacted and agreed to finish the sculpture.
