Remarks:
One of six courthouse sculptures of men known for their development of law on English soil. The sculptures are installed on the cornice above the main entrance to the courthouse. Stephen Langton (1150-1228), as
Archbishop
of Canterbury during the reign of King John, forced the signing of the Magna Charta. Lehman & Schmidt were the architects of the courthouse.

Marzulli's "The Development of Ohio's Counties and Their Historic Courthouses," Columbus, OH: County Commissioners Association of Ohio, n.d., pg. 41.; and a pamphlet entitled "The Courthouse: a Photographic Document" from the Cuyahoga County Archives. IAS files also contain unpublished material on the courthouse art work from the Cuyahoga County Commissioners Reference Library.
