    Funded with a National Endowment for the Arts, Art in Public Places grant of $50,000 given in 1980 to the University of Minnesota. The plaza is named for Hubert H. Humphrey (1911-1978), who was Mayor of Minneapolis, United States Senator from Minnesota, and Vice President of U.S. The plaza underwent renovation in 1995.
