Inscription:  (Front bottom of monument, below relief, raised lettering:) KNOWER (One side of monument:) SARAH VAN KLEECK/WIFE OF/BENJAMIN KNOWER,/DIED/SEPT. 18TH, 1833,/IN THE 54TH YEAR/OF HER AGE (Other side of monument, raised lettering:) BENJAMIN KNOWER/DIED/AUGUST 23RD 1839./AGED 64 YEARS. unsigned Description:  A monument with an oval bas-relief bust of Benjamin Knower in middle-age in proper right profile, wearing a high-collared, cloak-like garment. The relief is set within a raised tablet with an ornate, peaked, top border, on the middle front of the four-sided monument. A raised tablet with an inscription appears on one side of the monument. A leafy vine, in relief, winds around the monument below the tablets. The monument has a stepped, lower section, cylindrical embellishments affixed to each of the four corners above the middle section, and is topped by a tall, decorative spire. Benjamin Knower was a hatter and State Treasurer. The relief portrait of Benjamin Knower was done posthumously. The relief was done by Erastus Palmer, but the monument may not have been done by him.
