    Provenance: 
    Formerly located United States Post Office, Ninth & Chestnut Streets, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania until 1938.
    Remarks: 
    This sculpture was a gift to the City of Philadelphia from Justus C. Strawbridge. Originally it was installed in the historic core of the city near the Post Office. In 1938 when the Post Office was razed, the sculpture was given as a permanent loan to the University of Pennsylvania. It was rededicated January 21, 1939. The base was designed by Frank Miles Day in collaboration with Boyle. A replica obtained by the New England Society was sent to Passy, France.
    Conservation: 
    Treated 1996 June. Norton Art Conservation, Inc. (Lafayette Hill, PA). Treatment report is on file with conservator and University of Pennsylvania.
