    Remarks:
Gift of Henry C. Clark. Ebenezer Knight Dexter (1773-1824) was a Providence businessman and philanthropist who also served as United States Marshal for Rhode Island. He is well known in the City of Providence for having bequeathed several parcels of land, including the Dexter Training Ground, where this monument stands. Hubert was the sculptor of the figure; Deming designed the base. IAS files contain additional biographical information about Dexter; copies from report of dedication; and copies of newspaper articles from the Providence Journal, Sept. 4, 1978, section C, and the Providence Journal, Sept. 5, 1978, section B, both of which discuss Dexter's bequests to the city.
