    (On front of base:) Richard Joshua Reynolds 1850-1918/In 1875, the young Virginian aged 24, rode/into Winston Salem in search of a town in which/to build his first tobacco factory/Through the generosity of the Citizens of Winston Salem and Forsyth County/This memorial has been erected to honor a successful businessman and public benefactor. (On left side of base:) RICHARD JOSHUA REYNOLDS/1850-1918 (On ground, near back feet of horse:) Earline Heath King (signature recurs on small plaque on back of base) signed
    Description: 
    Bronze sculpture of Reynolds seated upon a horse which stands on an outcropping of ground; sculpture supported by a four-sided rectangular granite base. Rider sits on saddle with feet in stirrups, body faces forward while head turns to look proper right. Proper left hand holds reins while proper right dangles straight at side, hat in hand. Man is dressed in long-sleeved jacket and trousers. Horse poses with proper right foreleg foremost, proper left slightly behind, and raises proper left rear leg as though to stamp on the ground. Horse is taut and alert, with ears held up straight and head turned proper right, along with rider's.
