His proper right arm is raised to his chest and his head is turned to his look over his proper left shoulder. The sculpture is installed on top of a rock. He later founded Brandeis University. The sculpture was commissioned by Lawrence E. Wein, a trustee of Brandeis University, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Louis Brandeis. The inscription on a nearby plaque reads: LOUIS DEMBITZ BRANDEIS/1856-1941/DEDICATED DURING THE CENTENNIAL YEAR/BY/THE HONORABLE EARL WARREN/CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE UNITED STATES/COMMISSIONED BY LAWRENCE A.
