    Description: 
    Twenty-two Art Deco style bas-relief panels mounted on three faces of a Moderne Style newspaper building. Each panel contains an allegorical male or female figure who symbolizes the phases of activities and culture dealt with by the newspaper in its everyday service to its readers. The twelve panels appearing on the east face represent Art, Photography, Music, Drama, Science, Printing, Justice, Radio, Sports, Travel, Telephone and Aviation. The seven panels appearing on the north face represent Art, Literature, Photography, Printing, Science, Radio and Music. The panels are mounted on black art granite spandrels.

    Remarks: 
    C. W. Olson, Inc. cast the relief panels for the Ann Arbor News building, which was designed by architect Albert Kahn of Albert Kahn, Inc. John Knight was the supervising architectural engineer. The general building contractor for the project was the Esslinger-Misch Company. Three relief panels on the west face of the building are obscured because of a building addition. IAS files contain an article from the Ann Arbor News, May 19, 1936, and a related excerpt from Einar Kvaran's "Annotated Inventory of Outdoor Sculpture in Washtenaw County," 1989.
